Dinosaur trace
Dinosaur trace
- Species: Dinosaur Trace (possibly Dilophosaurus)
- Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts
- Age: Early Jurassic (200 MYA)
- Specimen: 11 x 10 (matrix), 5 inch (each footprint)
This authentic negative three-toed dinosaur trace fossil originates from the Early Jurassic red sandstones of the Portland Formation in Hampden County, Massachusetts. It is the exact same type of trackway preserved and protected at the world-renowned Dinosaur Footprints Reservation in Holyoke. While single tracks are found occasionally, this specimen features a rare (1%) multiple-print trackway that captures the real sequence of prehistoric motion. To clearly display the contrast between the natural depression and the surrounding stone, the tracks have been highlighted with washable paint that can be easily wiped away. This classic New England piece represents the ichnogenus Eubrontes, left by a formidable apex theropod very similar to the crested Dilophosaurus.
