This authentic negative (original footprint) and positive (cast of the original footprint) three-toed dinosaur trace fossil originates from the Early Jurassic red sandstones of the Portland Formation in Hampden County, Massachusetts. It is the exact same type of footprint preserved and protected at the world-renowned Dinosaur Footprints Reservation in Holyoke. To clearly display the contrast between the natural depression and the surrounding stone, the tracks have been highlighted with washable paint that can be easily wiped away. Paleontologists believe these iconic footprints were left by a formidable apex predator very similar to, or exactly like, the crested Dilophosaurus.
